*Literary Archetypes-


Hero- I would say that the hero would be Luke because he risked his life to save Princess Leia. He shows a great deal of the hero characteristics.


Archetypes- I think the archetype here is Hon Solo because he in the description it says a archetype is " Is often seen in savior terms as one who conquest evil and thus frees his people from destruction and death." While Luke was trying to blow up the planet, Dark Vader was about to shoot down Lukes spacecraft, but Hon came out of know where and freed Luke of Dark Vader. If Hon would have not come to the rescue and help out Luke, he would have probably died. So in the end Hon frees his people from destruction and death.


The Wise Fool- Obi-Wan Kenobi is my choice for the wise fool because Luke's Uncle comes right out and says it. So right away Luke thinks the same as his Uncle because he has never meant him before. But as the movie goes on Obi-Wan- Kenobi is actually anything but a fool. Hes smart and daring. Hes confident in what he's doing and saying.


The Devil Figure- The devil figure is the easiest to point out. Of course Dark Vader is the devil figure. Hes in charge and very mean. He's a leader, but a bad leader. He kidnaps people and kills them. He feels as if he is the ruler and the apointed one.


The Outcast- I picked C3PO as the outcast because no one really pays attention to him unless they need him. He's smart, but for some reason people just don't come to him. I thinks he's more alone other than R2 he doesn't have any other friends or family. He bounces around to different masters all the time.


The Double- The double in this movie is the force. It had two sides. The good side and also the evil side. It changes for each charactor.


The Scapegoat- Again i think Obi-Wan Kenobi is the scapegoat also because he is the victim, hes the one that dies. He sacrificed himself for the others. Society is not ready for him to bring what he offers. I'm sure in the later movies he comes back. He can't just leave right away. He has to play another important role later on.


The Temptress- The temptress was the hardest to point out, but as we know the Dark Side is the temptress. Everyone is attracted to it and everyone is curious about it and they want to see it. It tempts you. It calls for you.


The Good Mother- The good mother was also an easy one to pick out. Princess Leia is the good mother in the movie. She is caring and smart. She's a very good ruler and also very quick. She also very confident in her abilities and what she is saying. In the movie she tells Hon that now he is with her, she will decide what to do next.





*The Cycle of the Hero-


Call to Adventure- The call to adventure is when Obi-Wan Kenobi sees the messages and discovers that they must go save Princess Leia. Thats when everything starts.


Helper- Right away in the story the helper is C3PO and R2. Especially R2 because basically when he runs off he makes Luke go and find him which is where Obi-Wan Kenobi appears.


Threshold of Adventure- The threshold of adventure is the bar scene. Its when they get the space ship to go on their mission and it basically starts everything from there.


Tests- One of the tests is when they escape from the garbage and also when they escape from Dark Vader. Those i think where two of the major tests that they had to go through to make it to the next part.


Helpers- The next helpers are the pilots when they are bombing the planet that Dark Vader is on. The pilots are saving their friends and their people. There like the army almost. They help Luke when he is the one who is going to set the bomb off.


Triumph- The triumph is when the planet is blown up and distroyed. They win. Everyone is happy and celebrating. They did it. They saved princess Leia and also got rid of the bad guys.


Flight- The flight is when they are flying back to the Rebal base, Princess Leia's father's planet.


Threshold struggle- This is when they finally reach home and land. They discover that R2 is very bad damaged. C3PO is scared about it, but in the end they are able to fix R2 and he is back and running normally.


Elixir- The elixir is when Luke and Hon recieve the medals from Princess Leia and her father. They mean alot. I think they mean heros, bravery, and courage.





*The Tragic Man-


I choose to do Dark Vader as the tragic man because i think he has all the characteristics to be the tragic man.


1) He has a belief in his own freedom because hes a leader and he makes choices for everyone. He takes control and he takes care of things himself like he took care of Obi-Wan Kenobi. He also takes charge when the pilots and Luke come for attack, his followers can't stop them so he goes out himself and dominates!


2) He definitely has supreme pride. He does reflect arrogance and hes conceited. He thinks he's the best and that he should be the ruler and control everyone. He will do anyting just to get his way. No matter what it takes to get it, even if it means killing people. He just doesn't care. He never second guesses himself.


3)He knows that hes putting himself in danger, but he has the strength to do it. He has no fear of death. I think this because he's not afraid to fight, right when he felt the force of Obi-Wan Kenobi he went out looking for him and killed him, even though it could have gone the other way with him dieing. Even when hes in the spacecraft fighting the pilots and doesnt second guess himself.


4)Yes, he has a sense of commitment. Hes very stubborn because he doesn't stop untill he gets his way. He is dedicated to his mission. He could stop what he doing and change is mind and give up, but he doesn't. When he wants something, he will try no matter what.


5)Vigorous Prostest really explain him because basically, he doesn't go done without a fight.


6) After he sees that Luke blew up his planet (spacecraft) he goes away. He knows that he has lost this fight. He can't do anything more, his people, his followers are gone. Hes basically alone now.


7) He left an impact on the story. He made the charactors afraid of him and they know that he will most likely be back again.

Themes and Hero characteristics!

Theme- Some possiable theme choices I would say would be mission, bravery, and also adventure. I think mission would be a good one because most of the movie is about saving Princess Leia. Their mission is to find her and to save her. Which in the end of the movie, the mission is successful. Bravery i think is also a good one because most of the characters in the movie show bravery during the fighting scenes and also the scenes where they save Princess Leia. To be a hero you should be very brave. The last one I think is adventure because they are going on an adventure to another place where they are not familar with. Its thrilling and suspenseful. It keeps you on the edge of your chair. There could be a lot more, but those three stick out the most, I think.


Hero Characteristics- To be a hero, I always think of a big, strong, tough man. Who saves the day no matter what the situation is. They should always put their life in jeopardy for others. Even maybe die for a person that they are saving. Also a hero should have courage so that he can be faced with pain and diffucult and be able to pass through it. When I think of a hero I also think of a person to look up to. Someone who can be trusted and always there when you need them.
